Puppy and Kitten Care

At Cedar Ridge Animal Hospital, we know how important it is that your new pet gets off to a great start. That is why we focus on making their first wellness exam as fun and beneficial as possible. We also take the time to make sure you have all of the tools and knowledge to properly raise the newest member of your family.

Our Exams Include

  • A head to toe wellness exam to check for any developmental problems
  • Vaccinations against important diseases such as rabies and distemper
  • Testing for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus found in cats
  • An intestinal parasite screen (worms)
  • A general dewormer for intestinal parasites
  • A complimentary dose of heartworm and flea prevention
  • A complimentary new owner pack with informational handouts, brochures, and magnets with useful information such as pet first aid, toxic foods, and other information every pet owner should know
  • Advice and information on your pet’s healthcare, nutrition, training, and much more!

Puppy Care

Congratulations on your new puppy! Getting a puppy is an exciting time but there are certain essentials you will need to know to ensure your new puppy remains fit and healthy. When you pick up your puppy, remember to ask what and when he or she was fed. Our Cedar Ridge Animal Hospital team will be happy to see your puppy for its first wellness exam to help address any concerns and/or questions you may have about your puppy.

Your Puppy’s First Visit Includes:

  • A thorough “nose to tail” exam, including dental exam.
  • A customized vaccination program dependent on your puppy’s age and lifestyle
  • Heartworm prevention recommendations
  • Internal and external parasite screening
  • Intestinal parasite deworming (as needed)
  • Medical recommendations for preventing and controlling fleas and ticks
  • Housetraining and behavioral consultation
  • Nutritional needs discussion and exercise guidance

Kitten Care

Congratulations on your new kitten! Getting a kitten is an exciting time but there are certain essentials you will need to know to ensure your new kitten remains fit and healthy. When you pick up your kitten, remember to ask what and when he or she was fed. Our Cedar Ridge Animal Hospital team will be happy to see your kitten for its first wellness exam to help address any concerns and/or questions you may have about your kitten.

Your Kitten’s First Visit Includes:

  • A complete physical examination
  • A customized vaccination program dependent on your kitten’s age and lifestyle
  • Internal and external parasite screening
  • Intestinal parasite deworming (as needed)
  • A full screening for feline-specific virus’ such as Feline Leukemia Virus and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus
  • Recommendations for controlling and preventing fleas and ticks
  • Litter box training and behavioral consultation
  • Nutritional guidance for proper food portions and type of food to serve

Immediate care is needed for your new pet if any of these symptoms arise:

  • Coughing, trouble breathing, wheezing, or any respiratory problems
  • Excess vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Non-stop panting, exhaustion, or restlessness
  • Loss of appetite (or barely eating)
  • Discoloration of gums (turning from pink to gray or white)
  • Allergic reactions (i.e. swelling anywhere on the body or face or hives which are most visible on the belly
  • Eye injury (even if mild)
  • Seizures, fainting, or collapsing
  • Shock or trauma from an accident (even if physical harm is not detected)
  • Thermal stress, (an increase or decrease in body temperature)
  • Any open wound that is bleeding (even if mild)
  • An animal bite or attack (even if mild)
  • Possible poisoning
  • Foaming at the mouth
